The Watergate Scandal of 1972 was one of the biggest scandals in the history of the United States. Richard Nixon was the mastermind behind all of it and it cost him to lose his presidency and resign from office. It all started when his term as president was coming to an end. Richard Nixon was staying at the Watergate hotel before the election for what he hoped to be another term, and to make sure it was going to be another term, he pulled the old bribe trick. He had hired 5 men to catch and record phone conversations and other things of the Democratic National Committee . All would have went well if it wasn't for the five hired men's stupidity. On the morning of June 17, 1972, Frank Wills was doing his routine check ups and noticed some wire taped to the wall. He pulled it off and continued on. An hour later when he passed by again, he realized that it was reattatched. He then called the police. The 5 men Nixon hired were arrested and from there on, everything went downhill for Nixon. Eventually, this scandal led to his resignition and Gerald Ford would take over.
